Hi everyone,
Jesse here from Jesse’s Tech Solutions or JTS. Let me ask you a question: if your computer or phone suddenly broke tomorrow, would your photos, documents, and contacts be safe? For many people, the answer is a worrying “I don’t know.” I’ve seen firsthand the heartbreak of lost family photos and important files. That’s why having a backup is one of the most important things you can do.
What is a backup?
In simple terms, a backup is just a spare copy of your important digital files (like photos, documents, videos, etc.) stored in a separate, safe place. If something happens to the original device, you can restore your files from your backup.
Here are the two most common and effective ways to back up your life:
1. Cloud Storage (The Automatic Way):
“The Cloud” is just a term for online storage services. Think of it as a secure, digital vault.
– For Apple users: iCloud is built right into your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It can automatically back up your photos, contacts, and device settings.
– For Android/Google users: Google Photos and Google One are fantastic for automatically backing up your photos and phone data.
– For PC users: Microsoft OneDrive is integrated with Windows to back up your documents and pictures.
The big advantage? It’s automatic and your files are accessible from any device with an internet connection.
2. External Hard Drives (The Physical Way):
An external hard drive is a physical device you plug into your computer to copy your files onto.
The Advantage: You have physical control over your backup, and it’s a one-time purchase, with no monthly fees.
The Disadvantage: You have to remember to do it regularly, and if it’s kept in the same house, it’s vulnerable to the same risks as your computer (like fire or theft).
The Best Strategy? Do Both!
The gold standard is to have an automatic cloud backup for convenience and a physical external drive for extra security.
Setting up a reliable backup system is like digital insurance—you hope you never need it, but you’ll be incredibly glad you have it if you do. If this all sounds a bit complicated, don’t worry. I can help you choose the right solution for your needs and set up a simple, automatic system that gives you complete peace of mind.
Don’t wait until it’s too late!
Best regards,
Jesse
